Lancome’s main sustainability goals focuses on Care within 3 sectors:
Environment, Customers, and Women.
In centering our campaign, we focused on how we can incorporate their lipstick line into this umbrella of initiatives. We wanted to find a way to address all three sectors without compromising the overall solution.
- EnvironmentIn our brainstorming sessions, we wanted to explore different ways our solution can make a positive environmental impact. We looked into the entire life cycle to see the quantitative insights, even dissembling the atomic components that make a lipstick.
> mapped the supply chain process to highlight areas for biggest environmental impact
- CustomersCustomer interactions with the product were key moments to explore in our analysis. We learned how the specific design of the product can shape the customer's experience before, during, and even after usage of the product. Given that Lancome's focus in their existing environmental program is to encourage responsible consumption, we explored the different spaces that we can increase customer awareness.
> created mockups and other simulated experiences of the retail environment
- WomenThe dissembling of the lipstick led us to explore out-of-the-packaging-box ideas that we can incorporate Lancome's sustainability elements with the product line. We wanted to find ways to empower women while promoting growth in communities.
> Identified new industries beyond cosmetics to boost community impact (ie. education, art, etc.)
Currently, Lancome has instilled its sustainability approach into three of their main products: facial cream, foundation, and fragrance under the approach recharge, recycle, refill. We took stock of the pre-existing programs, and planned from there what innovative, daring solution we could bring to the table, while also staying true to Lancome’s brand and the 3 overarching goals.
- recharge / the cream comes with a replacement
- recycle / the foundation's physical construction has recyclable properties
- refill / the fragrance is designed to easily switch out cartridges for a new one
Due to NDA restrictions, I unfortunately cannot disclose detailed information of our project and proposed solutions.
However, here are some insights & highlights from the project:

Taking ownership of how our solution is encapsulated in a visual manner - This is the first line of exposure for clients & other stakeholders with our product, and it was important to present it in a way accurate to our vision.
Working with clients & receiving feedback -
Iterations that I made were presented on a regular basis to the client, where we were able to align the designs closer to the brand guidelines based on feedback received
